Dinos House of Burgers Partners with Proud Motorsports for 2018

Posted by proudmotorsports on December 23, 2017 at 11:35 AM Comments comments (0)

OSWEGO, NY (December 22, 2017) - Proud Motorsports is excited to welcome its newest partner ahead of driver Camden Proud’s 2018 championship campaign at the Oswego Speedway. This season, locally owned and operated restaurant ‘Dino’s House of Burgers’ located in downtown Oswego will be the team’s official ‘burger joint’ as this popular new location will now join the list of businesses onboard the Proud No. 54 aiming to get to victory lane at the ‘Steel Palace.’

Opened in summer 2016 by Jason and Cheryl Accordino, Dino’s has quickly become established as one of the favorite quick service, dine-in, and delivery choices in Central New York. With impressive customer reviews continuing to take off online coupled with being the only establishment of its kind in the immediate area, Dino’s continues to thrive.

Serving only fresh, never frozen Iowa Premium Black Angus Beef with deluxe burger menu choices that will make your mouth water, it’s taken Dino’s less than a year to be named ‘CNY’s Best Burger’ by Syracuse.com.

“I couldn’t be happier to welcome Jason, Cheryl and the rest of the team at Dino’s to our Proud Motorsports family,” said Camden Proud. “Dino’s has showed a lot of interest in Oswego Speedway, including setting up a stand at NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week this past October which was a home run. I was not surprised at all when the line wrapped all the way around the back grandstands. I approached Jason in an effort to help peak that interest he’s already fired up in our local race fans and he didn’t hesitate to jump onboard. As a regular customer, I’m thrilled to now have one of my favorite food stops join us in our hunt for the track championship.”

When customers crack open Dino’s impressive menu, the Dino Burger, which trades burger buns for two grilled cheese sandwiches, is certainly a favorite and it was this burger in particular that was dubbed the best in CNY in early 2017. The ‘Dino’ gets you that Iowa Black Angus in between the two sandwiches with fried mozzarella sticks, marinara sauce, and onion rings to top it all off.

It doesn’t stop there though, as Dino’s offers over a dozen unique speciality burgers. The Pepperoni Pizza Burger features marinara sauce topped with fresh mozzarella cheese and pepperoni. The Cowboy Burger boasts bacon and onion rings topped with crumble blue cheese. The Train Wreck Burger stuffs chili, fried egg, onion rings and cheddar cheese all in one. Or there’s Camden’s favorite, the Mac n' Cheese Bacon Burger, which tosses deep fried mac n’ cheese bites, Dino’s signature mac, and bacon all in between your bun.

The variety at Dino’s is second to none. Other choices available include the Hawaiian Burger, Lobster Burger, Cajun Ghost Burger, Triple “B" Burger, 3 Little Pigs Burger, Grilled Turkey Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Grilled Veggie Burger, or just the straight up Black Angus Burger to name a few.

Dino’s also offers specialty Hoffman Hot Dog and Mac and Cheese plates plus flatbreads, garbage plates, salads, and smoothies on their menu not to mention a full-sized bar located in the center of the restaurant along with an outdoor eating area used in the spring and summer.

Open every day of the week from 11am to 9pm, or from 11am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday, don’t waste your time if you haven’t given Dino’s a try. Conveniently located less than a mile away from Oswego Speedway, Dino’s can be found at the west end of the bridge just off Route 104. Call (315) 216-6536 to place a delivery order.

Opening Day at Oswego Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, May 26th 2018 which will see the lid lifter Jim Shampine and Tony White Memorial events for the Supermodifieds and SBS featuring Jim Shampine Memorial ‘Twin 50’s’ for the Supers. The speedway’s annual open practice session will commence a week earlier on Saturday, May 19.

Budget Signs to Provide New Graphics Package for Proud Motorsports in 2018

Posted by proudmotorsports on December 20, 2017 at 4:35 PM Comments comments (0)

OSWEGO, NY (December 20, 2017) - Syracuse based graphics and signage company Budget 1 Hour Sign Systems has returned to partner with Proud Motorsports and the driver of the No. 54, Camden Proud, for 2018 Small Block Supermodified competition at Oswego Speedway.

A partner since coming onboard ahead of Proud’s rookie season in 2014, Budget Signs has provided not only the full graphics packages for both the white and flat black Step One Creative designed schemes, but consistent replacement graphics and name changes in prompt fashion due to driver swaps or accidents.

After two years of sporting a flat black scheme at Oswego Speedway as well as on the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series tour this past season with father Tim at the wheel, the second runner-up in 2017 SBS standings will come to the track with a bit different of a look come Open Practice on May 19 as 19 year-old Proud will again be showing off a brand new design for the third time in five seasons thanks to the efforts of Step One Creative and Budget Signs.

“Adam and his team at Budget Signs have far surpassed our expectations in what has been a fantastic racing partnership over the course of the past five years,” Proud said. “They have done a tremendous job working with Mark (Proud) at Step One Creative to deliver exactly what we have been looking for as far as design goes and are ecstatic to unveil another brand new scheme for 2018.”

Following a heavy practice crash in May of this past season which destroyed the entire rear tail and nose sections of the body on the No. 54 car, Budget 1 Hour Sign Systems came through within a matter of days to provide Proud Motorsports with the necessary replacements.

“In less than a week following an accident which pretty much cost us our entire body early last season, Adam had replacement graphics set to go for us,” Proud added. “He also took care of frequent name changes to switch the car over for my dad Tim to compete on the Lighthouse Lanes SBS tour. We can’t thank Budget Signs enough for their continued support and encourage everyone to give them a call for all your graphics and signage needs.”

Budget Signs and Proud Motorsports will start the 2018 season by first taking to the Evans Mills Speedway with Tim as the driver in Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series events tentatively set for early May.

Opening Day at Oswego Speedway and the start to Camden’s season is scheduled for Saturday, May 26th 2018 which will see the lid lifter Jim Shampine and Tony White Memorial events for the Supermodified and SBS. The speedway’s annual open practice session will commence a week earlier on Saturday, May 19.

GJP Italian Eatery Returns to Fuel Proud Motorsports for 2018 Small Block Supermodified Campaign

Posted by proudmotorsports on December 12, 2017 at 4:10 PM Comments comments (0)

OSWEGO, NY (December 12, 2017) - For the fifth consecutive season, GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego will return to ‘fuel’ Proud Motorsports and team drivers Camden and Tim Proud for the 2018 season at Oswego Speedway as well as on the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series.

Under new ownership for over two years now lead by Larry Miller, Nicky Loomis, and the Gunther family, GJP has become Oswego County’s one stop shop for Italian eats; a new customer favorite.

Miller and his staff, who have supported Proud since making his speedway debut in 2014, have built their award winning brand rather impressively. The inside of the restaurant, located in Oswego’s JC Penny plaza just off Route 104 and in walking distance from the speedway, has been remodeled to include additional seating, a new menu, and much more throughout the past two years.

In 2018, GJP will again provide the ‘fuel’ for the Proud Motorsports team and drivers both on and off the race track, fueling the Proud Chassis No. 54 Small Block Supermodified each week at Oswego Speedway while filling up drivers Camden and Tim with some of the restaurant’s top menu picks as well.

“Proud Motorsports could not be happier to welcome back GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego onboard for a fifth year of partnership as part of our dedicated effort to Small Block Supermodified racing,” said Camden Proud. “Race day would not be the same without having GJP, and we are grateful for the continued support from Larry, Nicky and the Gunther family over the past several years. My family and I have enjoyed watching GJP grow into one of Oswego’s top locations for quick service, dine-in and delivery. We’ve had the pleasure of participating in several special events and appearances there, and are fortunate to have the staff work so hard to ‘fuel’ our car on race days, as well as go the extra mile to support my Dad’s return to the driver’s seat on the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series as well.”

Last June, GJP was brought to the TV screen in the Syracuse market on popular television special ‘The Empire Plate,’ which airs on local channels. The Proud No. 54 machine also made an appearance on screen for a special ‘pizza delivery’ from Miller handed to Camden in the cockpit of his car, which also featured Proud’s memorable ‘promposal’ for his senior year at Oswego High School.

As part of a menu that screams ‘variety,’ GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego has a large list of gourmet specialty pizzas available that will make your mouth water including Meat Lovers, Veggie Red, Eggplant Parmigiana, Buffalo Chicken, Bruschetta, Cheese Lovers, Compognola White, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Chicken Riggie, Grandma’s Pizza, Supreme, Tomato Pie, and even Panini Breakfast Pizza available any time of the day.

‘Italian Classics’ such as Baked Penne, Chicken Parmigiana, Veal Parmigiana, Stuffed Shells, Sausage and Chicken Riggies, Baked Lasagna, Carbonaro, Chicken Marsala, Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo, and Spaghetti and Meatballs are all on the menu as well and customer favorites to boot.

GJP’s selections do not stop at Italian food, as their menu also features starter items such as French Fries, Buffalo Chicken Tenders, Mushrooms, Queso Bites, Onion Rings, and Mozzarella Sticks.

Their outstanding homemade wings include a choice of every sauce you could imagine, with everything from the traditional Hot Wing, to Honey BBQ, Garlic, Mango-Habanero, and Teriyaki. Wings at GJP are just $9.49 per the dozen, while a large New York Style Thin Crust Pizza is available for purchase for just $14.49.

If you are sub, sandwich, or wrap lover, GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego has you covered there as well, offerings both cold and hot one pound subs for just $7.99 with your choice of meat and toppings. Their cold sub selection includes Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef, Pepperoni, Salami, Capicolla, Veggie, Cheese, and hand cut Chicken Culet while the hot sub menu features Chicken Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, Meatball, Eggplant, Veal, and Chicken Parm, as well as Davis Bros Steak specialty sub from right here in Oswego. You won’t want to miss out on local customer favorites ‘The Classic Cold Cut,’ ‘The Philly,’ ‘Turkey Delight,’ and ‘Chicken Spiedie’ subs and sandwiches.

A date for the 2018 Camden Proud Chicken BBQ Fundraiser, also to be backed by GJP Italian Eatery, will be announced in the near future. All plans point to the event returning to team sponsor Lighthouse Lanes between the months of March and April. If you or your business would like to donate a raffle item or door prize to the event, please email a team representative at proudmotorsports@gmail.com.

GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego and Proud Motorsports will start the 2018 season by first taking to the Evans Mills Speedway with Tim as the driver in Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series events tentatively set for early May.

Proud Motorsports Collects Special Awards at Oswego Speedway Banquet

Posted by proudmotorsports on November 6, 2017 at 9:15 PM Comments comments (0)

OSWEGO, NY - 18 year-old Camden Proud celebrated what was his best Oswego Speedway seaso yet this past weekend at the track's year-end banquet held at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego.

The former rookie of the year in 2014 drove to a total of seven top five finishes and three second place efforts in 2017, good enough for a third place effort in the overall Road to the Championship for the Pathfinder Bank SBS division. Taking part in a dual role as driver and the track PR director, Proud was elated to finally pick up his third place plaque surrounded my his supportive family, friends, and crew.

"It meant a lot to achieve one of the big goals we had prior to the 2017 season which was a top three in the Road to the Championship," Proud said. "Between coming on with a new powerplant from Finger Lakes Machine, my Dad's constant fine tuning in the shop, and a lot of good luck, it was just a great year for us and I'm proud to have the success we do with a homebuilt race car and a low dollar team. We really got the job done, but the next step is getting that first championship and feature win. I need to thank my sponsors, crew, family, friends, fans, girlfriend and all those who support me week in and week out."

As part of the banquet, the Proud team, specifically owner and chief wrench Tim Proud received several special awards which are traditionally distributed throughout the evening. For their efforts this year, the Proud Motorsports was declared SBS 'Crew of the Year,' something that means so much to Tim.

"We are a small team," said Proud, a former Supermodified pilot who came out of retirerment to race this season. "It's just me, Camden, my wife Debbie, Alex Borland, Doug Zupan, Scott Lord, and the rest of our family. The Bowman family helped us a lot, my parents, Jack and Allie Proud. We have a lot of great individuals who support us and lend a hand. This is very unexpected and its things like this that make the hard work pay off."

Camden shared in his father's excitement, noting,"My crew really had to step up this year. With me doing little to nothing at all on the car, traveling to dirt races for my website, plus practically living in the speedway office for my PR job, this is for my Dad and all the people who work on the 54 more so than me. It's for everyone who has helped me out the past four years and of course my Dad. Thanks to all those guys."

To cap off the night, Tim was awarded one more special honor and it was one that paid tribute to a longtime friend and former Oswego Speedway racer Tony White, who tragically passed away following a Small Block Supermodified event in 2005. This award, the Tony White Memorial Award, is given to a random individual each year by Wayne and Debbie White, Tony's brother and sister in law.

Emotional, Tim was unable to discuss what winning this award means to him on stage at the banquet. However, the White family noted he was chosen the winner for his dedication to the sport and willingness to help others out.

Reflecting, he said "The White Family has done a lot for us. They've supported our team with fundraising, they've cheered Cam on. They are great people. It is my honor to have been chosen for this award. Tony was a great friend and a great person. My brother and I shared a lot of laughs with him in the pits and he was just a fun guy to be around. To win this in his honor means the world to me. I was speechless and just want to extend a huge thanks to the White family for all they do for Oswego Speedway."

With the banquet in the books, attention now shifts to preparing the new body and color scheme on the Step One Creative No. 54 Small Block Super ahead of 2018, something Tim and Camden are already very hard at work on.

Oswego Speedway's 2018 season begins with Open Practice on Saturday, May 19th followed by the 68th annual Opening Day on Saturday, May 26.

Proud Motorsports, Step One Creative Renew Partnership for 2018 at Oswego Speedway

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO NY - Following a career best campaign for 18 year-old Camden Proud behind the wheel of his Proud Motorsports Small Block Supermodified, Oswego based marketing firm Step One Creative has renewed its sponsorship with the family owned team for the fifth consecutive season of action at Oswego Speedway.

Proud, a former rookie of the year in the division, is Oswego Speedway's public relations director and an avid motorsports writer, who put together a third place finish in the driver standings for the Pathfinder Bank Small Block Supermodifieds in 2017.

Notably earning three runner-up efforts and seven top five finishes last season to accumulate 943 total points, Proud is ecstatic to continue to build to his on track resume with the support of Step One Creative, a resume which includes 36 top ten finishes in 52 career starts. His No. 54 machine will be returning to Oswego's SBS class on a full-time basis next season.

"After our most successful season yet, I am very much looking forward to welcoming Shane (Stepien), Mark (Proud) and everyone at Step One Creative back for our 2018 effort," Proud said. "We are more confident than ever at our chances at the track championship and look forward to continuing our quest for my first feature win, something we've been so close to with now five second place finishes under our belt. Without Step One's loyalty and support, our successes to this point would not have been possible and I look forward to finally bringing them to victory lane this coming season."

Step One Creative, located at 317 West First Street in the Stevedore Lofts in Oswego, New York, offers full-service advertising design, brand development, public relations, copy writing, web design, and media planning/placement to organizations and businesses throughout Central and Upstate New York.

Proud Motorsports is a Small Block Supermodified race team based in Oswego, NY and owned by Tim and Debbie Proud. Camden, an 18 year-old driver and former quarter midget champion, has grown into one of the top competitors in Oswego Speedway's SBS division in his first four seasons of racing action.

“We are very excited to be back onboard for another season of partnership with Camden after his best on track effort yet," said Shane Stepien, president at Step One Creative. "Cam, Tim, Debbie and everyone at Proud Motorsports have continued to exceed our expectations in a racing partnership both on and off the race track for the past four seasons. Camden’s growth, enthusiasm, knowledge, and commitment to the sport and speedway continues to be very exciting to be a part of.
Our Step One team is looking forward to designing a new look for the No. 54 over the offseason and hopefully seeing Camden put it in victory lane in 2018.”

Brothers Tim, Chris Proud to Race Together For First Time in Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series 'Fall Brawl' at Evans Mills

Posted by proudmotorsports on September 12, 2017 at 5:20 PM Comments comments (0)

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY - With a rather successful 2017 Oswego Speedway campaign in the books for Proud Motorsports that saw three second place finishes, seven top five finishes and a third place effort in the championship standings for fourth year driver Camden Proud, the team's attention now shifts to this Sunday, September 17th's Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series event at the Evans Mills Speedway.

Once again this weekend, car builder Tim Proud will see action for just the third time in the past twelve years, attempting to put together his first ever Small Block Supermodified feature win behind the wheel of the Step One Creative No. 54 normally driven by his son. While Tim is excited to get back behind the wheel on Sunday, that will also come with a special twist, as his brother Chris will be back in action for the first time since Classic Weekend of 2015 with the Martin's Contracting No. 3 Proud Chassis, another car built by Tim.

Between the two cars, Chris and Camden have gathered nearly ninety top ten finishes for 48-year old Proud as a car builder while Proud himself, a former Limited Supermodified and Supermodified competitor, has garnered nine Oswego top ten finishes, multiple heat race wins, and second place finishes in his own SBS driving career between the 1994 to 1997 seasons.

Coming off of a heat race victory in his return to racing at Oswego's Race of Champions Weekend last October, Tim is looking forward to finally attempting a feature event for the first time since 2004, as the 25-lap feature event at Oswego, as well as the Evans Mills race earlier in the season with the Lighthouse Lanes Series, were both put on hold due to weather.

"We had a good car at Evans Mills earlier this year on older rubber," Proud recalled. "Going into the heat races I felt like we had a nice shot to win the whole thing. We've made a few changes and got some new equipment to get me a little more comfortable in the car, so I hope that helps us out a bit this time. It's been awhile since I've run a feature, but my goal is to just have fun with Cam and my brother and be there at the end of 50-laps."

Chris is also looking forward to his return to racing action, as the eight time Oswego feature winner with the very same Proud Chassis he will dirve Sunday will be making a rare start at Evans Mills, a track both he and Tim ran at in the early stages of their careers.

"It's been awhile since I ran Evans Mills, the last time was to get experience when I got my first Limited," offered the Brewerton, NY driver. "This weekend I am just going to have fun and hopefully still be competitive. It will be neat to get to race with my brother, that's something we have never done despite spending several years at the track together. My kids would really like to see me win one more race, so maybe I can get it done for them."

The 2000 Limited Supermodified rookie of the year, Chris pitted alongside Tim at Oswego for three straight seasons, before Tim got out of full-time racing in early 2002 while later returning to pilot Chris's No. 3 to a fifth place finish on Race of Champions Weekend thirteen years ago. Both of the Proud brothers are in search of their first top five effort at Evans Mills.

Joining the Small Block Supermodifieds on Sunday's schedule will be the Mills Modified, Legends, Bandolero, Thunder Stock, 4-Cylinder and 4-Cylinder truck divisions in Evans Mills' season finale. Pits open at 11:30am, heat racing is set to begin at 3pm, with hot laps at 1pm. Feature action will follow the preliminary races. General admission tickets are just $10 and can be purchased at the gate. Kids 15 and under are FREE at the Evans Mills Speedway. Pit passes are $25. Proud Grabs 30th Career Top Ten Finish; Drives from 11th to 5th in Oswego Summer Championship

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – Camden Proud picked up his 30th career Oswego Speedway top ten finish and ninth career top five in this past Saturday night’s Summer Championship at the Steel Palace.

Proud entered the event on a hot streak of two consecutive runner up efforts heading into July 15 action, scored his fourth top five of the season and fifth top ten after a fourth place heat race effort lined the driver of the Step One Creative No. 54 machine up to start 11th place in the 30-lap main event.

It didn’t take Proud long to go forward as he found the low line early on Dalton Doyle, before a lap three yellow involving Jesse Bearup and Rob Pullen moved the 18 year old up two more spots into 8th.

After a lap was not completed prior to the caution, Proud would again have to work under Doyle and made quick work in doing so on the restart, before then working his way under polesitter Dennis Rupert along with third place starter Barry Kingsley to move into 6th.

Despite leaders Mike Bond, Andrew Schartner, Dave Cliff and Mike Bruce walking away from Proud early on, Camden was able to reel in Bruce and crack the top five at the halfway point of the event.

Although feeling the pressure from last week’s winner and veteran Jack Patrick for the second half of the event proved tricky, Proud held on for the top five run.

“Tonight was probably one of the best drivers of my career,” Proud said post-race. “We overcame mechanical issues earlier in the evening to score my third top five in a row. I really couldn’t be happier. I learned a lot tonight and got to mix it up with some great drivers and cars. It was a lot of fun. I have thank to my crew for all the hard work and sponsors for the continued support. Things have been great lately, pretty much as good as you can ask for, and hopefully we can continue this trend of good finishes by picking up a win in Mr. SBS next weekend.”

Camden unofficially remains third in points as of press time. Also unofficially, for the charge from 11th to 15th, he also picked up the fifth D&S Landscaping ‘Hard Charger Award’ of his career, advancing more positions than any other driver in the main event.

The $1,500 to win ‘Mr. Small Block Supermodified’ show at the speedway, set for next Saturday, July 22 will begin with the start of hot laps at 4:30pm before time trials take to the track at 6:15pm. Once again next weekend, racing will take the green flag at 6:45pm. General admission for the full show, including the $10,000 to win ‘Mr. Supermodified’ main, is set at just $20.

Proud Enters Summer Championship with Momentum Following Two Straight Podium Finishes

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – Camden Proud enters this Saturday night’s C’s Beverage ‘Summer Championship’ at Oswego Speedway with more momentum than ever following two straight second place efforts behind the wheel of the Step One Creative No. 54 machine.

After starting second in last week’s July 8 action, Proud fell back to sixth early, but was able to charge back up the runner-up spot by the conclusion of the thirty lap main to finish second to eventual winner Jack Patrick ahead of the likes of Dalton Doyle, Brad Haynes and Dave Cliff who completed the top five.

Jumping six spots in the point standings over the past two races and now in third, Proud is just 41 points behind leader and defending track champion Dave Cliff.

“Two seconds in a row isn’t bad at all. I’m just wondering when that first win is coming. It was tough starting on the outside pole tonight, I knew Mike (Bruce) would give me a good look out there and try to take my momentum away,” Proud said post-race last weekend. “Unfortunately I allowed that to happen and we fell back a bit. I think we’ve had a winning car the past two weeks, it just took me too long to get by the 88 tonight, but once I did it was smooth sailing in third. Russ (Brown) had some misfortune that we were able to take advantage of to bring it home runner up.”

Jumping six spots in the point standings over the past two races and now in third, Proud is just 41 points behind leader and defending track champion Dave Cliff and very much in the heated battle for the 2017 Pathfinder Bank SBS track championship.

“All in all I couldn’t be prouder of this small family team to put together two awesome runs in a row, we’re right back in the points race and hopefully the win we’re all waiting for is coming soon,” Proud offered. “I think we’ve really hit on something and I’m super amped up for the Summer Championship this weekend. Hopefully we can inch even closer to the points lead.”

Action this weekend at Oswego Speedway will begin at 4:30pm with the start of hot laps before group time trials hit the track at 6:15pm. Racing will begin at 6:45pm. Adult general admission tickets are available for just $15 while kids 16 and under will be admitted FREE.

Camden Proud Posts Fifth Career Podium Finish in Small Block Super Grand Prix

Posted by proudmotorsports on July 3, 2017 at 9:00 PM Comments comments (0)

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – Camden Proud picked up his fifth career podium finish this past Saturday night in Pathfinder Bank SBS ‘Grand Prix’ action at the Oswego Speedway.

Proud, driving the Step One Creative No. 54, finished fourth in his heat race after starting in the third spot to pick up his handicap starting position for the night and later went on to hold off the series’ all-time winningest driver Mike Bond in the 35-lap feature event to pick up his first podium finish of 2017.

After Dennis Rupert and soon to be first time winner Greg O’Connor lead the feature field to green, Proud gave chase to O’Connor early after starting third, at one point sticking a nose under the No. 90 machine before a yellow flag flew on lap 5.

With thirty circuits remaining, the distance of a regular feature at Oswego, Proud tried with everything he had to get by the O’Connor machine while also attempting to hold off one of his mentors in Bond, who marched through deep in the field up to the third spot.

The top three of O’Connor, Proud and Bond pulled away from the field but stayed in that finishing order throughout the caution-free thirty lap stretch. Neither Proud nor Bond were able to reel in O’Connor, with both the 54 and 74 machines loose on corner exit. O’Connor went on to his first feature win, making himself the second first time winner in a row at Oswego.

While Proud was disappointed to be so close and only finish runner up, he was content with the result after his start to the season which has included multiple mechanical failures, a practice crash, and also the failure to finish top four in his heat race which allows a driver his handicap starting spot for the main event.

‘It has been a tough start to the year, so we are happy with second tonight,” Proud said. “We’ve had mechanical failures, failed to make our handicap last week and had only one top five prior to tonight. I thought we may have had something early, but we had older tires on and the car was really free on throttle pickup as the race went on. Greg (O’Connor) was great tonight, he was smooth and didn’t make any mistakes so congrats to them on a great job. Now that there has been two first time winners in a row, maybe it will be our turn to get one next week. We just missed the setup a little bit today. I really wanted a podium to put myself back in the points race though, so I got my wish.”

Unofficially, Proud is in sixth, seven points out of third in the standings heading into this Saturday, July 8th’s action which will feature a 50-lap main for the Novelis Supermodifieds, 30-lap feature for the Pathfinder Bank SBS, plus a 67-lap special for the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour all capped off by a huge Demo Derby to finish the night.

Heat racing action will begin at 5pm this weekend with time trials going green at 4:15. $25 general admission tickets are available by calling the speedway box office at (315)-342-0646.

Camden Proud Returns to the Drivers Seat this Saturday, July 1 in Grand Prix Special at Oswego Speedway

Posted by proudmotorsports on June 29, 2017 at 2:15 PM Comments comments (0)

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – After weather halted two attempts to get Tim Proud back behind the wheel of the Step One Creative No. 54 Small Block Super in Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series events throughout the past three Oswego Speedway off weeks, it will now be Camden Proud’s turn to get back behind the wheel this Saturday, July 1 at the ‘Steel Palace’ in the Independence Weekend ‘Grand Prix’ special presented by D-Bus and Holiday Inn Express.

Saturday’s action will be the fourth race on Oswego’s 2017 schedule and the start to a very busy summer stretch which will see four straight races to kickoff the month of July followed by three straight races in August leading up to Budweiser International Classic Weekend at the end of the month.

Heading into the busy schedule, Proud sits ninth in the Pathfinder Bank SBS Series Road to the Championship standings with finishes of 4th, 14th and 9th under his belt wheeling his potent Proud Chassis machine.

Following an accident on May 28 and a mediocre effort on June 10 which saw the 18 year-old recent Oswego High School graduate fail to make his handicap starting spot for the 30-lap feature, this weekend will present a golden opportunity for Proud to score his first ever main event win at the ‘Big O.’

“After three straight weeks off and watching my Dad behind the wheel of the car, I’ve had a lot of time to think about things and strategize for the upcoming busy summer schedule,” Proud said. “We know we have a fast piece and I think the car to beat back on June 10, we just started way to deep in the field. Hopefully our bad luck is out of the way and we can make the climb up the points ladder we are so desperately looking for right now. With handicap on our side this weekend, I really need to get that top 4 in my heat race. We should start in the first two rows. We are in dire need of a podium finish to pick up some points.”

Approaching the month of July, Proud is only 17 markers out of the top five in the standings with the 2017 driver’s championship still very much in his sights.

Racing action this Saturday night will get underway with Pathfinder Bank SBS group time trials at 6:15pm followed by Novelis Supermodified time trials at 6:30pm. Heat racing action will begin at 6:45pm with SBS heats up first followed by the Supermodifieds, the 35-lap Pathfinder Bank SBS ‘Grand Prix’ and the 75-lap Novelis Supermodified ‘Grand Prix.’ For a full schedule, visit online at OswegoSpeedway.com.

General admission tickets are available by phoning the speedway box office at (315)-342-0646. Kids 16 and under are admitted FREE at Oswego Speedway with a paid adult.

Tim Proud Ready to Gas It Again with Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series this Friday at Spencer Speedway

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – Less than a week after the inaugural showing for the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series at the Evans Mills Speedway rained out, Tim Proud will return to action this Friday June, 23 at the Spencer Speedway series event which will pay $1,000 to win.

Proud was strong in hot laps at Evans Mills and this weekend looks forward to going for the big payday, racing for 30-feature laps at the Williamson, NY oval.

“We were strong at Evans Mills,” commented Proud. “I had a lot of fun. It was unfortunate that we didn’t get the show in, we plan on going back for the rain date in September. Hopefully we can go racing on Friday. It will be an even playing field, most of the guys have never ran at Spencer before and if they have it has been a long time. I’m pretty excited. Hopefully we can get a win.”

The ‘Fall Brawl 50’ at Evans Mills will be made up on Sunday, September 17 while Friday night will mark Proud’s first ever start at the Spencer Speedway, but not the first for a Proud Chassis, as Tim’s brother Chris has laps around the Wayne County oval in the 2001 Proud racer built by the duo. The 48 year old is still in search of his first ever Small Block Supermodified victory.

Pit gates will open at 4:00pm this Friday night with general admission grandstand gates swinging open at 5:30pm. Hot laps will hit the track at 6pm before racing gets the green flag at 7pm. General admission is set at just $15 for adults, $13 for seniors. Children 6-12 will be admitted for $6 while children 5 and under are FREE. For more information, visit SpencerSpeedway.org.

Ex-Supermodified Racer Tim Proud Joins Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series Contingent this Sunday, June 18 at Evans Mills Speedway

By LIGHTHOUSE LANES SBS SERIES PR

OSWEGO, NY – It had been 12 years since one-time Oswego Speedway veteran Timmy Proud had sat in a race car prior to Race of Champions Weekend at the ‘Steel Palace’ this past September.

Proud broke into the 18 second bracket for the first time in his career behind the wheel of his self-built Proud Chassised Small Block Super numbered 54 last fall, a car usually driven by his son Camden on Saturday nights. Later in the day, the 48 year-old car builder and team owner went on to win his heat race, however feature competition was rained out.

The manager of Ken’s Body Shop in Oswego has 8 Small Block Super wins as a car owner and over 50 top tens with 5 plus heat wins to his credit as a driver, coupled with a handful of podium finishes and over a dozen top twelve efforts racing part-time in the Limited Supermodified ranks throughout the late 1990’s.

After making his Supermodified debut for car owner Skip Matczak three years earlier, Tim trialed directly into the 2000 Budwesier International Classic 200 for Supermodifieds at a lap of 17.326 seconds with his brightly colored No. 22 machine.

This Sunday, Proud joins the field of Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series drivers in search of $1,000 to win, touring the Evans Mills Speedway in yet another return to racing action for the accomplished fabricator from Oswego.

“I’m looking forward to supporting the class and getting back behind the wheel on Sunday,” Proud commented. “This new series is a great way to expand the division and we are happy to support it. It will be a fun way to spend Father’s Day with my family. I want to make sure I get comfortable in the car again as the day goes on, but my goal is to be up there battling for the win at the end of the 50-laps.”

Proud also plans to compete at Spencer Speedway next Friday, June 23rd, making this season the first time since 2001 that Tim has competed behind the wheel for back to back weeks.

Joining Tim in action on Sunday will be fellow returning drivers JJ Andrews, Steve Woods, Ron Pratt, Vern LaFave, and more.

Several familiar names will also take part in the action including Oswego regulars Dalton Doyle, Rob Pullen, James Babcock, Cameron Rowe, Mark Castiglia, Mike Bruce, Cameron Black, Jesse Bearup, and Greg O’Connor.

Pit gates will open at 2:30pm this Sunday at the Evans Mills Speedway with grandstand gates opening at 3:30pm for the start of practice. Racing will begin at 5pm. General admission tickets are just $10 and can be purchased at the track. Kids 15 and under are FREE at the Evans Mills Speedway. Pit passes are $25. Camden Proud Sets Fast Time, Posts 27th Career Oswego Top Ten on June 10th

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – Things went a whole lot smoother for the driver of the Step One Creative No. 54 Small Block Supermodified this past weekend at Oswego Speedway.

Just two weeks removed from the heaviest crash of his four year career at the Steel Palace, Camden Proud was back in action behind the wheel of his homebuilt racer and it didn’t take the 18 year old, who was making his final high school start at the Big O, very long at all to find his way back to the top of the speed charts.

With laps that went sixth and fourth quick in pre-autograph session hot laps this past Saturday, Proud later soared to the top of the charts on new rubber in group time trials, setting quick time with a lap of 18.991 seconds. The No. 54 was the only car under the 19 second bracket all day, making this the second time of 2017 that Proud has turned a sub-19 second lap.

“I couldn’t have been happier to come across the line and see that 18.9,” Proud commented. “After we were looking at a destroyed race car just two weeks ago, after watching all the work Dad put in, I was nervous to push the car too much. He ensured me the car was good to go. He was right. That was exactly what we were looking for to start the night and it was nice to get my guys fired up.”

After turning heads by setting his first ever fast time at Oswego, Proud lined up to start 6th in his heat race and after much contention with the top four of Alex McRae, Mike Bond, Cameron Rowe and Mark Castiglia, perhaps the biggest downside of the evening was when Proud failed to finish in a handicap starting spot.

“You need to finish fourth or better to get your handicap starting spot, I didn’t,” Proud noted. “That one really stung. We had a strong car. I was kicking myself because after I ran the 18.9 I ran turn one too hard and spun the car out. I think that effected us a bit in the heat. All those guys were trying to pass and we seemed pretty even so it was tough, but I had the faster car. I wasn’t aggressive enough. I think the spin out got in my head and I didn’t get the job done. It was a huge disappointment for me because had we got the handicap, we would have been way up front after 16th on May 27.”

Instead, Proud came home 5th in his heat which in turn gave him a 13th place starting spot in the 30-lap main event on the evening. The feature went caution free and the No. 54 showed a lot of life as Proud drove from 13th to 9th, getting by Alex McRae, Cameron Rowe, Brad Haynes and Mark Castiglia before reeling in points leader Dave Cliff, Andrew Schartner, Jack Patrick and Tony White Memorial winner Mike Bond in the closing stages. Proud turned the third fastest lap of the feature with his Proud Chassis Small BLock.

“Despite the mediocre result, I was relatively content with our feature effort,” Proud stated. “We had a real quick car, actually turned the third fastest lap of the whole race. I got hung up behind the 86 for awhile, but we made quick work early. The car was on a rail. Once I found my way under Brad (Haynes), I got it figured out and that’s when we started to reel in Mike (Bond) and the rest of the pack. We were right there, but we just ran out of time at the end. I think we had a podium car at the very least and had I got my handicap I think we would have been there without issue. It just wasn’t a great night less getting our quick time, I knew going in how important those handicap finishes are to set you up to win. It’s on me. It’s an even, even class and real tough to pass. You’ve got to get that handicap because that will put you right up front.”

Proud now believes that since the new group time trials system has been adapted in 2017, handicap efforts will be even more difficult.

“I truly believe our car will be top three to five fastest every single week in group time trials if everything is going well,” Proud said. “We have a really strong, stable piece in that regard. This past weekend we were extremely hooked, the tires sized up nicely. If you get the fast time though or one of them anyway, you start towards the back in your heat and have your hands that much more full to find your way to a top four in the short ten laps you have to make it happen. You really have to battle. I want to keep going for quick times though, those are vital to the championship as time trial points are worth more than heat points. That (championship) and a win are our big goals this season. There’s no excuses, I just need to drive and now have three weeks to play strategy with Dad heading into our next event in July. We know what we need to do to be up front in every stage of the evening and I have the tools to do it, so hopefully we will be right there.”

Jesse Bearup picked up the win in the Pathfinder Bank SBS division this past weekend with Dalton Doyle and Barry Kingsley filling in the final two podium spots. O’Connor, Cliff, Patrick, Bond, Proud and Haynes rounded out the top ten.

While Oswego Speedway will not be back in action until July 1 which features an Independence Weekend ‘Grand Prix’ special for the Supermodifieds and SBS, Proud Motorsports returns to racing this Sunday, June 18th with the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series inaugural showing at the Evans Mills Speedway. After returning to racing last September following a 12 year hiatus, team owner Tim Proud will be back in action looking for his first career win behind the wheel of his self-built No. 54.

Proud Ready for Redemption in Final High School Start at Oswego Speedway

Posted by proudmotorsports on June 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM Comments comments (1)

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY - Camden Proud will return to racing action this Saturday with a fully repaired and rejuvenated Step One Creative sponsored race car, entering June 10 action 8th overall in Oswego Speedway's Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super series standings behind the wheel of his 'Proud Chassis' No. 54.

Two weeks removed from a heavy practice crash caused by parts failure which only allowed a 5th place heat race and 16th place feature finish in the Tony White Memorial on May 27, Proud is ready to get back on track this weekend for a big night of racing which includes driver autographs. This Saturday's event will be the final Oswego race held when Proud, who began competing at the Steel Palace in his freshman year at Oswego High School, will still be enrolled in grade school.

"It is very hard to believe that Saturday will be my final start in a race car of any kind while still in school," Proud commented. "Of course, racing has been a big part of my grade school years since all the way back to kindergarden. Everything I've been able to accomplish at Oswego Speedway at my young age has been extremely humbling and I couldn't be happier with it, but I want to go out with a bang. It'll be my last week walking through these halls as a competitor at the speedway. That means a lot. It continues to be a surreal experience. The support from administration, teachers, staff and friends over the year has been unreal. I want to cap it off in a big way. It's a big weekend. We want to finish off my high school years with a win at the Big O. That's what we are focused on."

Proud also spoke of his difficult start to the season and the struggle to inch towards that pesky first victory, something that is weighing heavily on his shoulders as the races click off in 2017.

"It's been a tough start to the season, we had a podium slip away in the opener and obviously two weeks ago was a nightmare, it couldn't have gone much worse than it did," Proud stated. "My Dad has gotten to the bottom of why we had the parts failure, the brake issue is fixed, new sheet metal is on the car and we are ready to go. The necessary repairs have been made and there is no reason we shouldn't be back on track to contend for the win Saturday. It bothers me greatly that we have not gotten there yet. I want that monkey off my back because I know we are capable, things just haven't worked out completely in our favor yet. It's autograph night too so that is definitely something I'm looking forward to. Redemption is a good feeling and that's what I'm going for this weekend."

Entering the only Oswego race until July 1, Proud has seen a fair amount of success in the first month of the summer season, recording 2 out of his 4 career podiums in June. The 18 year old, who will graduate in three weeks, is still in search of his first win just 20 notches out of third place in the standings.

Proud Motorsports merchandise and driver autograph cards will be available during the session on Saturday, which will take place at 5:15pm on the frontstraightaway. The team is offering a 3 shirts for $54 deal on 2016 and 2017 merchandise. Regularly priced orders are also available at $20 for sizes S-XL with XXL and XXXL shirts priced at $22. A minimal amount of Proud Motorsports sweatshirts, which bear the same design as the t-shirts, are in stock as well. Saturday's autograph session is FREE with the price of admission.

Racing action will get underway with Novelis Supermodified group time trials at 6:30pm followed by SBS time trials at 6:45pm. Heat racing action will begin at 7pm with Supermodifieds heats up first followed by SBS, the first Supermodified Twin 35 of the evening, the 30-lap SBS main event, and the second Supermodified Twin 35 serving as the nightcap. Proud Manages 16th Place Finish in Tony White Memorial After Heavy Practice Crash

Posted by proudmotorsports on May 31, 2017 at 3:15 PM Comments comments (0)

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – It was a rough night for Proud Motorsports this past weekend at Oswego Speedway.

After crashing in practice and once more in group time trials due to mechanical issues, Camden Proud and team managed a 5th place heat finish and 16th place feature finish with a heavily damaged race car.

“I am really proud of my guys for their efforts this past weekend,” Proud said. “Everyone was so quick to look at the mangled mess that was my car and quickly run back to the shop to grab parts, pitch in, and lend a hand. All of the support was great. Thank you to all of those who helped out, there were a lot of you.”

Proud clocked off a 19.2 second lap in practice before making hard contact with the third turn wall after the right front spindle on the car let go.

“It was one of those nights where if it could go wrong, it went wrong,” Proud commented. “We had a really good car and I knew we were gonna be quick when I went out on the new tires. Unfortunately we never got the chance to prove ourselves. We don’t have mechanical problems often. It broke my heart to not be able to go out there to compete in honor of Tony (White), but there was nothing we could have done to prevent the parts breaking.”

With hard work from the Proud crew, along with a plethora of fellow drivers and teams pitching in to lend a hand, the Step One Creative No. 54 was repaired well enough to go back trackside for group time trials.

Unfortunately, due to brake problems, Proud found himself in the third turn foam once again after just beginning to take up to speed laps in the time trials.

Only taking the green flag in the heat and feature and starting scratch in each race, Proud managed 5th and 16th place finishes due to attrition and hard work, allowing the No. 54 team to pick up enough points to stay in the race for the championship after their nightmare Saturday came to an end.

“Everyone around me was there for support this past Saturday,” Proud stated. “My entire crew and then some worked so very hard. Many stopped by to show their support, check in on me after the hard hit, and wish me well. It was great to have my spirits lifted. We salvaged something. We made something out of nothing. There is a lot of work to be done but we will be back June 10. Hopefully our wrecks are out of the way for the year now. After this past weekend, I have even more incentive and motivation to go fight for my first feature win, and of course the track championship.”

The Proud Chassised racer currently sits 8th in Pathfinder Bank SBS Series points, just 20 out of third.

Tim Proud to Step In as Driver of Proud Motorsports No. 54 at Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series Events

Posted by proudmotorsports on May 23, 2017 at 10:30 AM Comments comments (0)

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – Proud Motorsports is ready to move forward with plans already in place for Tim Proud’s return to the driver’s for back to back seasons beginning this June.

Proud will drive the Step One Creative No. 54 machine driven weekly by his son Camden at the first two Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series events at the Evans Mills and Spencer Speedways June 18 and 23.

Despite the original gameplan which would potentially see some of ‘Proud v.s. Proud’ action on track, the Addison Bowman racer which Tim has been rebuilding over the offseason will not be complete for Camden to drive come June.

Instead of Camden moving back to the 54 rather than the Hedger/Proud fabricated No. 12, Tim will be back behind the wheel with his first event scheduled for June 18 in a 50-lap, $1,000 to win contest at the Evans Mills Speedway in Jefferson County.

“Unfortunately we won’t have the 12 done in time for the first two Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series shows,” said Camden Proud. “The bottom line is I want my Dad behind the wheel over me for these races so we are going to move forward with those plans. End of story. As long as the car is in one piece after the June 10 show at Oswego we will be there with him driving. It’s pretty much set to go, we just need to move a few things around to get him more comfortable than he was. We sort of threw things together for the RoC. I want to use the tools and people we have around us to plan this one a little bit better so he can be as successful as possible. I’m completely okay with being on the sidelines and supporting my Dad. It’s something I’ve wanted to do on a part-time basis for a very long time now.”

Coming off of a successful return to racing following a 12 year absence which was highlighted by a heat win and sub-19 second lap in last September’s Race of Champions event at Oswego, Tim will no doubt have the tools to contend for the win at both Evans Mills and Spencer.

“Evans Mills I ran at way back in 1997 and my old original Proud we had at the time was pretty fast there, I liked it,” mentioned Tim Proud. “Our new car was also quick up there back in 2013 when Camden drove. If I can get myself a little more comfortable in the car I think we can absolutely contend up front. Hopefully all goes well leading up to the first show and if we come out of Evans Mills clean and I’m feeling good about it then we will focus our attention on Spencer. My hope is to go for the win, but more importantly have some fun.”

Despite little to no racing under Proud’s belt for the past decade or so, Tim is no rookie to the SBS division with nearly 30 starts to his credit including a runner-up finish and several heat wins at Oswego.

Proud has also seen Supermodified experience, qualifying directly into the 2000 Budwesier International Classic 200 at a lap of 17.326 seconds.

As a car owner of No. 54, Proud has garnered nearly 40 top ten finishes plus eight wins as a chassis builder with his brother Chris driving the potent Proud Chassis No. 3 at the Big O.

Proud Aims to Build Off of Top Five Finish in Tony White Memorial this Saturday, May 27

Posted by proudmotorsports on May 23, 2017 at 10:25 AM Comments comments (0)

By PROUD MOTORSPORTS PR

OSWEGO, NY – Fresh off a top five finish to start his fourth season of action at Oswego Speedway, Camden Proud will be back behind the wheel at the Steel Palace this Saturday, May 27 competing in the Tony White Memorial 35 for Pathfinder Bank SBS as part of the Port City 160 ‘Super Spectacle.’

Picking up his sixth career top five and twenty sixth top ten on May 13, Proud is fourth in the point standings for the SBS division, less than 20 points behind leader Dave Cliff.

With finishes of 19th, 6th and 6th under his belt in Memorial Day Weekend events, the 18 year-old looks to move up a few spots this weekend.

“We started our season strong with a top five on May 13, however we had a podium car that did not finish on the podium. That’s on me,” Proud said. “We’ve been quick in this event the past two seasons and knocking on the door for a top five. We’re up there in the points race to start the year, the car has already been in the 18s. I’m confident and motivated. This is the first big race of the year. I would like to go get it done for Tony (White) and dedicate a win to him.”

Heading into this weekend, Proud still searches for the first win of his career at Oswego. A senior at Oswego High School, the young campaigner and former speedway Rookie of the Year has collected an astounding 33 top twelve efforts in 41 career events at the Steel Palace driving his father Tim’s homebuilt racer.

Proud Motorsports merchandise will be on sale at the track all weekend long.

Fours Everywhere: Camden Proud Begins 4th Season Fourth in Points Following Fourth Place Finish in SBS Heat, Feature on Opening Night at Oswego

OSWEGO, NY – Opening Night at Oswego Speedway for Proud Motorsports proved to be all about the number ‘4’ when it came to the driver of the No. 54 Step One Creative sponsored Small Block Supermodified, Camden Proud.

Proud, who is now a senior in high school and finishing up his fourth year at OHS, kicked off his fourth consecutive season of full-time action at the speedway this past Saturday and it seemed as though just about every single thing he did resulted in the number ‘4’ throughout the evening.

Following up on two laps at 19.0 seconds in Friday’s testing, Proud found himself second and fifth fastest on the speedcharts in afternoon hot laps with laps at 19.1 and 19.0 on Saturday.

Continuing his success despite struggles with the four new Hoosier tires that were placed on the car, the No. 54 wound up fifth fastest in Saturday’s group time trials. Proud cracked the 18 second bracket twice to start the season with a best lap of 18.963.

Brown, Bond, Cliff, and Schartner lead the way with those four drivers being the only other competitors in the pit area to break into the 18s.

“It was a nice feeling to start our season breaking into the 18 second bracket,” Proud commented. “I felt like we were really strong last year, but despite that we honestly struggled to get down to 19.0 until Classic Weekend. This freshened motor seems to be working great for us and I am very pleased with how it is running so far.”

The 18 year old believes that timed warmups will be very crucial and also extremely challenging at the same time in 2017 as the Road to the Championship points battle heats up for the Pathfinder Bank SBS division.

“These group time trials will be extremely important when it comes down to the points championship,” Proud noted. “That is one of our biggest goals this year. We want a win and we want the championship. Guys like Russ (Brown), Bond, Dave (Cliff), Andrew (Schartner), Bruce, all of them are quick every single week. Doyle, Patrick, Bearup, they are all capable. Everybody in the field is. I drove every lap as hard as I could in the group time trials to get us to 5th quick. The time trial points are worth more than the heat points now. We have to be careful with our tire strategy and I just have to wheel it to the best of my ability to get those points for the end of the year.”

With 19 cars in the pit area, the inversion pill was pulled and this lined Camden up starting fourth in a very tricky heat race with Dalton Doyle, Jesse Bearup, Mike Bruce, Bond and Dennis Rupert all in the field.

Proud held his own from the get go and stalked race leaders Doyle, Bearup, Bruce and Bond looking for his handicap starting spot on the evening.

Despite trying both lanes to get by, the entire field stayed dead even for the duration of the 10-lap qualifier and it appeared as if somebody would need to slip up for Proud to find his way into the handicap positions after falling back to 5th from the outside at the drop of the green flag.

That is exactly what happened. Unfortunately for Mike Bruce, but fortunate for Camden, the driver of the No. 22 lost the handle on the car car coming off of turn four on the final lap, handing Proud, you guessed it, fourth place.

“That was a stacked heat,” Proud said. “I tried the outside on Jesse (Bearup) a few times. It looked like he and Mike (Bond) were really battling it out up there. It was good racing. Mikey (Bruce) kind of gave us a gift there to give me my handicap starting spot or my night would’ve been a whole heck of a lot more difficult. I didn’t have a ton of a grip on exit there either so that made things challenging. We were just happy to get the handicap as that is so important and the key to success in the main event.”

After another inversion pill was pulled, it was determined that the 54 would start outside pole for the 30-lap season opener alongside Kreig Heroth.

Heroth got the jump on the start, with 3rd place starter Andrew Schartner also finding his way by Proud.

Camden fell in line between Heroth and Schartner and stayed in a podium position for nearly the first half of the race, before slipping up in turn two and allowing Dave Cliff and Russ Brown to get by.

“I got loose coming off of two and when that happened, Dave (Cliff) got into me just enough where it caused me to get out of shape and run up the track a little,” Proud said. “That killed us. I was watching the board and I knew when Cliff got us so would Russ. I was less than pleased to not be in a podium position at that point, so I just drove every lap as hard as I could to stick with those guys. The car really came in the second half of the race and I was able to reel them back in.”

Proud ended up finding his way by the 04 of Heroth in the late stages and despite giving chase to Brown and Cliff for what would have been a battle for second and third prior to time running out, Schartner was dominate and walked away to the Opening Night victory.

“It’s a solid start, but I won’t pretend I am not disappointed,” Proud said. “This one is on me. My Dad had the car set up great. I made a little mistake and didn’t focus for just a split second and it cost me. There is no room for error with those guys (Cliff and Brown), they are two of the very best this class has ever seen. Fortunately the car came in big time with about 12 to go so I was able to reel them back in and get by Kreig for fourth. We definitely had something for the 50 and 13 at the end, but I’m not sure if anyone was catching Andrew. I started 2nd. I expected myself to get a podium and we did not. I know what I need to work on and I think the crew chief has an idea of a few more things he wants to tweak.”

Despite being a bit dejected with the result, the former speedway Rookie of the Year is aware top 5 finishes are very hard to come by in the Pathfinder Bank SBS division so the night was far from a complete disappointment. Saturday was the sixth of top five effort of his career.

“Sure, we will absolutely take the top 5,” Proud commented. “I am not complaining, as we know how tough and how even this division is. Any time you can finish in the top five you are doing a real good job. My car was almost spot on. It’s a great points night. We were mixing it up with the guys we need to keep honest for the run at the championship. Hopefully in a couple weeks we can finish three spots higher. Those are the two big goals this year. Win and championship. That is all thats on my mind.”
